Old Mutual Harare Marathon: A Celebration of Community, Health, and Endurance

On February 9, 2025, the Old Georgians Sports Club was alive with energy as the Old Mutual Harare Marathon brought together runners, families, and supporters for a celebration of fitness, resilience, and community spirit.
This year’s event saw participants of all ages and abilities take on distances of 42.2 km, 21.1 km, 10 km, and 5 km, showcasing their dedication and endurance.
The day was filled with inspiring performances, with participants pushing their limits to achieve personal bests. The winners of this year’s marathon exemplified excellence in endurance sports, with standout performances across all categories. In the 10km races, the winners were Melody Kaseke, Andrew Dick, and Caroline Mhandu in the women’s and men’s categories, respectively. In the 21.1 km races, the top finishers included Caroline Mhandu and Moses Tarakino. For the 42.2 km events, Graham Dorothy and Nicholas Nyengerai triumphed among the Grandmasters, while Tabitha Tsatsa and Nicholas Mugomeri took the top spots in the women’s and men’s Master categories. Additionally, Monica Kativhu and Farai Mjeguli led the way in the veteran divisions, while Fortunate Chidzivo and Blessing Waison claimed victory in the open categories.
Isiah Mashinya, Old Mutual Zimbabwe, Group Chief Customer and Operations Officer, expressed the significance of the event, stating, “The Old Mutual Harare Marathon embodies our commitment to fostering health and wellness within our communities. Every step we took today reflects our promise to unite people and build a sustainable future for all.”
Lillian Mbayiwa, Old Mutual Marketing, Public Affairs & Sustainability Executive, reflected on the event’s spirit: “This marathon is about striving for excellence and achieving personal bests. As a qualifier for prestigious races like the Oceans and Comrades marathons, it holds even more significance for our runners. Today, we celebrated not just athleticism, but the power of community and unity. I want to congratulate every participant for their incredible effort and dedication, this event’s success is thanks to each of you. As we look to the future, Old Mutual remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote physical wellness, sustainable development, and the growth of local talent. As participants crossed the finish line, they were met with cheers and a sense of accomplishment, highlighting the camaraderie that defines the Old Mutual Harare Marathon. Together, we continue to make strides toward a healthier Zimbabwe.
