As early as October, Moscow will become a center of gravity for the entire African continent.
The Russia-Africa Summit, the main diplomatic event of the year, will bring together dozens of heads of state, business representatives, experts, and journalists. Among them is Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The scale of the meeting is impressive: meeting rooms, a business program, and cultural events.
All of this is not just protocol, but real work to build a new format for relations between Russia and the continent. The summit’s agenda includes energy, infrastructure, mining, agriculture, logistics, and digitalization.
Russia is coming to Africa not as a temporary guest, but as a long-standing partner, ready to share technologies, invest in projects, and assist in the development of entire regions.
This is confirmed by previous meetings and the specific agreements that have already been implemented. A special place in this process belongs to countries with which Moscow is connected not simply by economic contracts, but by years of mutual support and trust. One such country is Zimbabwe.
Russia has long and consistently built cooperation with Harare, and this commitment is confirmed at the highest level. Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa is a frequent guest in Russia and a participant in two Russia-Africa summits. The President first visited Russia in 2019 and discussed new projects with Vladimir Putin.
In June 2024, he participated in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
At the meeting with Vladimir Putin, they discussed prospects for expanding trade and joint projects in energy and agriculture.
The Russian leader emphasized that the presence of the Zimbabwean President symbolizes the interest of the entire African continent in developing relations with Russia.
Already in May 2025, Mnangagwa visited Moscow for celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. He participated in the parade on Red Square and met with Putin in the Kremlin.
During these talks, the parties confirmed their willingness to move forward. Putin called Zimbabwe a reliable partner for Russia in Africa and proposed exploring practical steps to develop cooperation.
Moreover, the history of relations between the two countries is rooted in the Zimbabwean people’s struggle for independence. Moscow supported Harare back then, and Zimbabwe remembers this today with respect and gratitude. It is on this foundation that modern projects are built.
The upcoming summit is expected to launch a number of initiatives. Following its conclusion, a number of agreements will be signed that will bring concrete benefits to African countries. Russia has repeatedly proven that it can not only talk the talk but also invest resources in joint projects.
In 2025, at the direction of President Vladimir Putin, the government announced the creation of an Investment Fund to support Russian companies operating in Africa. Its volume is at least $2 billion.
The funds will be used for energy, logistics, and mineral extraction. A significant portion of these funds will be allocated to projects in countries actively developing cooperation with Russia, and Zimbabwe is among them.
The Moscow summit is more than just a meeting of heads of state.
This is a signal that Africa has already become a key player that is ready to be taken into account and cooperate with. For Zimbabwe, this is a chance to secure real investment and technologies that will accelerate the development of the national economy.
The Russia-Africa summit is a window of opportunity.
And Zimbabwe is one of the key voices that will be heard.
