Rarely do people living outside Harare have time to see the country’s top musicians performing as the only time they can do so is when the State stages galas in their proximity.

Most of the lovers have to contend to listening to their favourite musicians on radio, watch them on television and follow what they are doing in newspapers.

However, this is not the case with people living in Chinhoyi, as they have the opportunity to see some established artistes in action occasionally at Jongwe Corner Chinhoyi while observing Covid-19 regulations.

The place located in the heart of Chinhoyi industrial area had been frequented by well-known artists and disc jockeys in recent times.

Rising stars Freeman, Killer T, Selmor Mtukudzi, Mbeu, Trevor Dongo and DJs Gargamel, Gutfit International, MC Gudo and Zimdj Fitzroy have all set foot on the joint that is proving very popular in Chinhoyi.

But what makes the place tick?

Jongwe Corner Chinhoyi manager Tonderai Shambira  said the place provides entertainment to fun-starved Chinhoyi people.

“I always get some thank you from many people. The place provides a hideout to patrons who want to party without the watchful eyes of others,” he said.

Shambira said many people had money in the area but the problem is that they do not have where to spend it.

“People usually make money in the mines surrounding Chinhoyi but some travel to  Harare to have fun,” he said.

Shambira said his wish is to bring artistes such as Jah Prayzah, Winky D and Alick Macheso who have yet performed there before.

“Jah Prayzah has a lot of following. We have talked to his manager and preparations are on cause to bring him.

“We also talked to Aleck Macheso and he showed a keen interest to perform here and he is expected to perform during a family show this Sunday December 19.”He added.

Chido Samukange from Mzari, Chinhoyi’s low density suburb who attended a recent Family Show which featured Selmor Mtukudzi, Mbeu and Trevor Dongo could not hide her joy commending Jongwe Corner Management for providing entertainment in the wake of Covid-19 restrictions.

“Our town is dull in terms of entertainment, we always drive to Harare. Thanks to Jongwe Corner for the family shows following the relaxation of the Covid 19 lockdown restrictions and we expect more shows to come”, said Samukange.

Shambira said family shows suit well with the Covid-19 restrictions, especially curfew times.

“The turnout and discipline of the fans proved that we can still hold more family shows guided by Covid-19 protocols,” he said.

The place has a braai area, a stage, a bar and a jumping castle for children
