Sungura music icon Alick Macheso has been confirmed as the headline act for Hippo Valley Estates’ 70th Tadzika Midzi Anniversary Gala, set for 30 May at Chishamiso Stadium in Chiredzi.
The event marks seven decades of the company’s growth, resilience, and community impact.
The announcement follows the signing of a performance agreement between Macheso and Hippo Valley Estates at the company’s Harare offices this week.
Tongaat Hulett’s Head of Corporate and Industry Affairs, Dahlia Garwe, said the partnership reflects a shared celebration of corporate heritage, culture, music, and community values.
“This partnership represents a fusion of corporate heritage, culture, music, and community values that are deeply important to us,” she said, adding that Macheso’s participation will enrich the gala experience for stakeholders, employees, and the wider community.
Hippo Valley Estates Corporate Communications Manager Anne Nyakunu described the anniversary as a significant milestone.
“Today’s occasion is more than the signing of a performance agreement. It represents the coming together of key partners to celebrate 70 years of growth, resilience, and community impact,” she said.
She also emphasized the role of the media in documenting milestones and preserving corporate history, noting that Macheso’s music, spanning generations, reflects the enduring spirit of Hippo Valley Estates.
Macheso, who attended the signing ceremony with his manager Tich Makahamadze, expressed excitement about the upcoming performance.
“Let’s take the Hippo Valley Estates 70th Tadzika Midzi Anniversary Gala as an important celebration and come together. We are in the process of making a new album and promise lots of surprises,” he said, adding that he has fond memories of performing in Chiredzi as far back as 1984.
Garwe also confirmed plans for broader community and national development initiatives, including continuity in sugar production and distribution, as well as an Amateur and Professional Golf Tournament scheduled for June 25 to 28 at the Triangle and Hippo Valley Golf Courses.
