HARARE – The Minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Prisca Mupfumira has thrown a lifeline to locals as she seeks to review prices at some of the local resorts.

Speaking to journalists in the capital last week, Mupfumira said reviewing the prices for locals was a way of promoting domestic tourism as well as allowing locals to have full knowledge of some of these places.

“One of my immediate resolutions is to get the charges for local people to be reviewed because we want to encourage them to be champions of domestic tourism,” she said.

She gave an example of the $7 charge for locals at Victoria Falls saying it needs to be reviewed.

“We have a lot of these places that need to be reviewed for locals because we want our people to go to visit and enjoy these destinations,” she said.

Turning to the Harare International Carnival, she said they want people to understand that Zimbabwe has a happy culture.

Harare International Carnival is set to be held on October 20.

Minister Mupfumira said it was important for people to come out in their numbers to celebrate the carnival.

“Let us come in our numbers like what we did in November. We want that because people have to see that we are a happy country. We want them to see that we are a free country,” she said.

With carnival beckoning, thousands of people await to see the battle of different groups in making the event memorable, exciting and thrilling.

“This carnival will make us proud to be Zimbabweans because of the image. We are also happy that this will come as a celebration of the new Zimbabwe,” Minister Mupfumira added.
