ED pushes economic reform agenda

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa Thursday said ZANU-PF will push economic reform agenda, dropping populist’s policies which have destroyed the economy.

His remarks, made while addressing members of the Central Committee at the party’s headquarters in Harare, comes after Finance Minister, Mthuli Ncube, last week announced that he will not make major macroeconomic reforms next year.

Mnangagwa, however, did not disclose the populist policies that he will dump. Analysts, however, believe these include social protection programmes like Presidential inputs scheme among other to be scrapped.

“The course and path we have taken as a ruling party and government is to resolve the economic problems in the country and it is the correct path to follow. Gone are the populist’s policies which were for the short term and we are not going to follow them again,” Mnangagwa said.

“There is clarion call towards economic growth, job creation and poverty eradication as we are biased towards economic growth. Let us be leaders of integrity by shunning corruption and greed which have destroyed our economy.”

Mnangagwa said his government had introduced austerity measures this year to correct some economic fundamentals and had ended the policy during the course of the year.

Zanu PF is holding its 18th Annual National Conference in Goromonzi from December 10 to 15 under the theme “Modernise, Mechanise and Grow the Economy towards Vision 2030”.

The conference is expected to consolidate national efforts towards reviving the economy, with President Mnangagwa aggressively pursuing economic recovery through the implementation of the Transitional Stabilisation Programme 2018-2020.

Over   7 000 delegates are expected to participate in the conference.
