ZRP hails Red Cross

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has hailed efforts made by the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society (ZRCS) in providing First Aid whenever there are disasters in the country.

Speaking at the World First Aid Day commemorations held at Morris Depot over the weekend, Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga said ZRCS has a track record in saving lives therefore, they value their input.

“The Zimbabwe Red Cross Society’s track record in First Aid Training services speaks for itself and the Zimbabwe Republic Police values their input in saving lives through to of the range first aid training and services,” he said.

He said First Aid is not limited to road users as it is a necessity in different communities.

“First Aid is a necessary skill that can help save lives during emergencies disasters. As the Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner General, it gives me great pleasure to speak on the importance of First Aid given the role police play in protecting human life during road traffic accidents and other emergencies and national disasters.

“The importance of First Aid is however not limited to road users but is a prerequisite in our different communities, industry, mining sector, schools and even for the safety of individuals that are exposed to these emergencies,” he said.

ZRCS president Eddison Mlambo said First Aid is fundamental in saving lives and providing relief services during peace and conflict situations.

“I am even encouraged by the strides we are making through our First Aid in schools programme where we are training both teachers and students in basic First Aid. This is a national drive and we are happy with the support we are getting from the government through the Ministry of Education in enacting this nobble initiative,” he said.

Mlambo said their theme “First Aid and Road Safety” is also a reflection of how First Aid remains an integral component even in people’s homes.
