ZB targets SMEs

ZB Bank is taking practical steps to support Zimbabwe’s housing development agenda through a targeted SME Financing Facility aimed at businesses operating within the housing and construction value chain.
The initiative demonstrates the bank’s commitment to sustainability, enterprise development and inclusive economic growth by providing financing to SMEs that manufacture, supply, distribute, import or install building materials and construction inputs.
The facility is aligned with ZB Financial Holdings’ Sustainable Standards Certification Initiative, which emphasises responsible banking and practical solutions that create lasting community impact.
Through this initiative, ZB Bank is not only speaking about sustainability but actively financing the businesses that help build homes, support infrastructure development and strengthen the broader housing ecosystem.
This makes the facility highly relevant to the Shelter Afrique agenda, as it directly supports the supply side of affordable housing delivery.
The financing is designed to meet both long-term investment needs and short-term working capital requirements.
SMEs can access Capital Expenditure Facilities of up to 36 months, which may be used to purchase manufacturing machinery, fabrication equipment, transport fleets, warehouse infrastructure, automation systems and production upgrades. These investments are critical for businesses that need to increase capacity, improve efficiency and supply housing projects at scale.
In addition, the facility provides Working Capital Facilities of up to 12 months to support day-to-day operations. This includes financing for raw material procurement, importation of tiles, roofing sheets, plumbing materials and fittings, customs duties, freight, supplier payments, inventory build-up and other operational costs. By addressing these practical cash-flow needs, ZB Bank is helping SMEs remain active and responsive to construction demand.
Beyond funding, the facility offers SMEs flexible repayment terms, competitive financing tailored to their sector, advisory support, relationship management and access to digital and transactional banking solutions. This is important because many SMEs require more than capital; they also need structured banking support, guidance and financial tools that enable them to grow sustainably.
Ultimately, the SME Financing Facility is about more than lending. It is about empowering entrepreneurs, strengthening communities and supporting Zimbabwe’s housing delivery ecosystem. By financing businesses that provide essential construction inputs, ZB Bank is helping to unlock capacity across the value chain and demonstrating that sustainable banking can translate into visible development outcomes. Through this initiative, ZB Bank is walking the talk: empowering SMEs, building Zimbabwe and delivering on its promise to support sustainable development.
