Zanu PF youth leader appeals to Bulawayo companies

ZANU-PF Youth League Secretary Tinotenda Machakaire has appealed to companies in Bulawayo to employ local youths and stop giving menial jobs to people from other cities.

Speaking at an inter-district meeting with Bulawayo youths at Stanley Square Stadium in Makokoba high density suburb over the weekend, Machakaire said Bulawayo people should be given preference in their city.

His remarks come after an outcry from Bulawayo residents that local companies were employing people from other cities.

“Bulawayo is my home and I have to make sure that whatever government projects are done in other provinces are done in Bulawayo as well. We have agreed that we can’t employ people who come from Hwedza when we have youths in Bulawayo without jobs,” Machakaire said.

“There is also no way we can have people from Mutare coming for tenders in Bulawayo when we have companies here in Bulawayo. We will not accept that companies import labour to do menial jobs.”

He said the government was working on a number of projects to help develop the country such as the fixing of roads which is creating jobs that should benefit locals.

“We don’t want trucks to be bringing people from Harare as if we don’t have people in Bulawayo. We want to make sure that we are clear on that issue,” Machakaire said.

The Youth League leadership is on a nationwide drive to meet its structures which it says are key to delivering victory for ZANU-PF in the 2023 harmonised elections

Machakaire said: “Understands that youths in Bulawayo face peculiar problems compared to their rural counterparts hence they will roll out skills programmes to empower them.”

Meanwhile Zanu-PF Politburo member, Tshinga Dube is confident Zanu PF will “not only romp to victory in the 2023 harmonised elections but win back seats from Bulawayo constituencies and wards where the party has performed badly in previous years”.

The country is eagerly waiting for President Mnangagwa to proclaim the election date in due course.
