A Munich-headquartered construction equipment manufacturer, Wacker Neuson Group, is set to open shop in Zimbabwe through a partnership with Pelgin Consultancy Services.

Under the partnership Wacker Neuson Group will be supplying construction equipment but is also open to the possibilities of setting up a manufacturing plant on the African continent in the long run.

The German company valued at about $1,7 billion has operations spanning across the Americas, Asia and Europe.

Wacker Neuson Group representative for South Africa, Dennis Vietze told Business Times in an interview that the change in the political environment had seen the group rethinking its presence in Zimbabwe.

“The change in political and economic situation saw us rethinking about our presence in Zimbabwe. Garry Moorcroft (Pelgin managing director) got in contact with us and we had good kick off meeting in South Africa which saw us being here now,” said Vietze.

Wacker Neuson Group is an international family of companies and a leading manufacturer of light and compact equipment with over 50 affiliates and 140 sales and service stations. The group offers a broad portfolio of products, a wide range of services and an efficient spare parts service.

The product brands Wacker Neuson, Kramer and Weidemann belong to the Wacker Neuson Group.

Moorcroft said that the increase in road construction projects in Zimbabwe offers avenues for the German equipment manufacturer to supply the needed machinery.

Moorcroft said the company has so far submitted 90 bids for tenders for several local authorizes and has to date been awarded 30.
