Visual artist Mushipe holds street exhibitions in Gweru

Multiple award-winning visual artist, Forbes Mushipe, will in two weeks hold  street exhibitions in Gweru, it has been established.

Business Times can report that preliminary exhibitions started last weekend.

But, the main exhibitions will be rolled out on November 19, according to Mushipe.

He said the exhibitions, to be held under the theme, Paradise Restoration,  will be mobile as Mushipe and crew will move around Mkoba.

“The exhibitions are community engaging, influenced by the growing need for men to live in harmony with nature and within themselves.  A restoration in all circles of life is urgently needed. We also aim to engage educated and uneducated artists to interact with each other as business partners. We have employment that we can create if we brainstorm together,”Mushipe said.

He added: “The exhibitions will be held in open air as we fight Covid 19. It will be a free walk on exhibition grounds. It’s time to demystify and open up for or to the public.?”

The Midlands greatest contemporary artist of all times who has put Midlands on the map for winning three NAMA awards in a row, will take care of all the bills that may be incurred.

Speaking to Business Times,  at the preliminary exhibitions last weekend, Gweru residents expressed gratitude to such an initiative

“We are happy that Mushipe has brought something unusual to our community. Visual art exhibitions are regarded as something meant for those who are well-up, for low density suburb bearers.

“Most of us know of soccer and indigenous games…. Mushipe has just turned things around, we need to see more of this.”  Dj Munya, a local wheel spinner told Business Times.

Another Gweru resident, Christina Musonza, said: “As a community we are happy with the initiative. If these youngsters are kept occupied, they will not have time for  drugs, early sex, and other bad habits. We are behind him.”
