Violence at Jah Prayzah’s Gweru failed show

Violence erupted at VG Complex in Gweru where Jah Prayzah was supposed to perform on Saturday.

The dreadlocked musician refused to go on stage citing a poor sound system,  forcing disgruntled music lovers throwing beer bottles and stones at the stage.

Jah Prayzah manager Keen Mushapaidze said they failed to perform because the promoter hired a poor PA system which was going to damage the band’s reputation if they had performed.

“We had agreed with the promoter that they would secure a proper PA system but the one that they got was not good enough for live performances. It’s a PA system that can only be used for a DJ set,” Mushapaidze said.

He added: “We have a brand to protect and we also wanted to safeguard the integrity of the band.

“We could not just perform for the sake of just making an appearance, because this would damage the brand of the band.”

Tapiwa Mungani of Mbazo Entertainment was, however, singing a different tune.

“The system that we hired was from Harare and we were referred to by Jah Prayzah’s team,” Mungani said.

Supporting acts such as Poptan and Dadza D who performed earlier did not have similar problems with the PA system.
