PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa Thursday called on local companies to produce at least 20% of their goods for export markets and the remainder for locals to help the economy attains middle income status by 2030.

Speaking at the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce 5th Annual Business Review Conference, President Mnangagwa said local products should be competitive. Business Times was the media partner.

Mnangagwa said companies, which are currently battling crippling power cuts, foreign currency shortages, fresh capital among many challenges, should devise ways for the 2030 dream to remain alive.

“ZNCC should drive production agenda. Business must aim to produce 20% of their goods for export market and 80% for the local market,” Mnangagwa said.

“If you want meat, devise a way of killing that animal, if you want fish devise a way of catching that fish. So, devise ways of producing goods that can compete in other markets. Silo mentality will only slow down our economy. We are stronger working together.”
