Plaxedes Wenyika launches 8th album

Songbird, Plaxedes Wenyika, will release her eighth studio album, Afrosoul Rhapsody tomorrow.
It has 11 tracks.
Speaking at a pre-launch listening session on Wednesday, the “Wadarireiko” hitmaker, declared the new album would be a game changer.
According to Wenyika, the album comes after two sold-out Urban Grooves concerts, where she and other musicians in the genre gave incredible performances to demonstrate that they still had what it took to be performers.
She claimed that after hearing from fans who felt let down because they were missing a certain sound that isn’t present in music being performed these days, she was motivated to return to the studio.
‘’ I thought to myself let me do something that would take me to the next level as I cannot repeat the same thing I have been doing over the years .I asked where I wanted to be, where I want to compete’,” she said.
As musical trends become increasingly revolutionary, Wenyika said it became imperative to devote oneself entirely to Afro soul.
‘’My sound for now is Afro Soul but I was also thinking bigger that yes Zimbabwe is fantastic but if people can listen to Zahara and the likes of Lira it is now time for the world to know that Divas can also come from Zimbabwe,” she said.
As for the production of the album, Wenyika recorded in South Africa with a Zimbabwean based producer Tino Beatboy at Jazzworx Studio
Asked if she will be doing live shows Wenyika said: ‘’ Yes I have a band – Brighter Day and the beauty of having a live band is what you hear on the Album is what you will get on live shows ‘’
With hit Albums in the past like Tisaparadzane, Full circle and Sentiments the hopeless romantic is sure to churn out an album that will not disappoint as two of the teasers from the upcoming 11 track Album Story and Watoba moyo wangu featuring Zimbabwean born ,South African based Jazz Maestro, Louis Mhlanga are bound to be hits.
