Primary and Secondary Education deputy minister, Edgar Moyo, has lauded the Chipinge Central legislator, Raymond Machingura, for efficiently utilising government resources after constructing a classroom block at Mayfield Secondary School in Chipinge district.

The block was constructed using funds from the Constituency Development Fund.

“We are witnessing the fulfilment of the national constitution of Zimbabwe amendment (No 20) Act 2013 section 75, which emphasizes the right to education for all pupils. I therefore implore upon all parents within this community and beyond to ensure that all pupils attend school at this institution,” Moyo said, while commissioning the classroom block.

The community also contributed toward the construction of the classroom block.

Machingura said: “We continue to improve the learning spaces of our pupils in line with the requirements of the competence based curriculum. The milestone realised in this school is in conformity with the dictates of the National Development Strategy 1 of the Second Republic of Zimbabwe under one of its key pillars that speak to improving access to education namely the provision of infrastructural development and amenities to the citizenry.”

The school started in 2017, operating as a satellite school of Mafumise High School. It currently has Forms One to four but needs more classrooms, electricity and internet connectivity to meet the demands of the competence based curriculum.

Last year, the school had a total enrolment of 192, up from 80 pupils when it opened in 2017.
