Natfoods supports 46 vulnerable groups

Victoria Falls listed agro-processing firm, National Foods Limited (Natfoods) is supporting over 46 vulnerable groups across the country as part of its corporate social responsibility programme.

“To date, the group supports a total of 46 organisations including children’s homes, orphanages, schools, hospitals, churches, old people’s homes, special needs groups, vulnerable women and wildlife.

“The company took full responsibility of two charities in each of the 10 provinces of Zimbabwe – where packages of foodstuffs are sent out monthly and also provides and donates food which is enough to make 3.9m meals per annum,” Natfoods group human resources executive Alice Pawarikanda, said during the donation ceremony last week in the capital.

Natfoods participates in initiatives that are geared towards the preservation and long-term sustainability of the environment.

The communities have embraced and found value, nutrition, health and growth in Natfoods products and services. National Foods products are the preferred staple products in Zimbabwe.

Recently, Natfoods brought four orphanages and homes which include Homefields, Runyararo, Felly Orphanage and Ruvimbo Special School to its Stirling Factory in Workington in Harare to handover food.

Homefields centre was established in 1964 for the care and education of intellectually challenged individuals and the elderly and it has 73 adults aged 18 years and above.

The centre is situated in Mount Hampden some 20km from Harare along Lomagundi road and is part of the Zimcare Trust managed by the Centre Management Committee made up of parents and volunteers.

Runyararo and Domboshava Children’s Home was established in 2007 for the care of orphans and Natfoods has been giving monthly food stuff to Runyararo since 2016.

Ruvimbo special school was established in 1971 for the care and education of intellectually challenged individuals, it has 97 boys and girls.

It has 66 boys and 31 girls, they are situated in Southerton.

Felly orphanage was established in 2005 and it provides a continuum of care for orphans and vulnerable children linking supplementary feeding, medical care, psychosocial support, socio-economic support, protection of child rights, community involvement and referral mechanisms.

The project works with children living with HIV, survivors of rape, orphans and those living in households headed by children and ill parents.

It has 98 children aged 2 to 16 years.

The community is based in Harare and is operational in Mbare and Highfields and Natfoods has been giving monthly food stuff to Felly since 2010.
