Mookomba to headline Munch and Sip Food festival

Award-winning and talented Mookomba is the main act at the Munch and Sip Food festival to be held at the Criterion Water Works in Bulawayo this Sunday.

The Munch and Sip is a music and food festival that is held every three months.

Mookomba who are held as the most exciting band from Africa in the 21st century, have performed in more than 40 countries and at world’s biggest festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival and the New York’s Apollo Theatre.

The six-man band is known for its subtle instrumentation that creates an electric atmosphere whenever they perform.

Their lead vocalist Mathias Muzaza shows off his vocal capabilities each time they perform.

Band Fusion from Bulawayo will also perform during the festival. The band is known in Bulawayo for doing cover versions of well-known regional and international artists.

A number of club DJs that are expected to entertain food enthusiasts at the festival are DJ Danubie, DJ Keezy, Appolo and DJ Sibbs.

These DJs are well known for playing Electric Dance Music and Amapiano.

Festival organiser Mandipa Masuku says revellers should expect a wholesome festival.

“I think it’s important for people to get comfortable with the topic around food and drink before we can effectively actually start teaching and showing them ways to elevate their own Zimbabwean ingredients.

For now we take the chance to show and make them taste good food from Nigeria, Japan and America, so that they can evaluate different flavour profiles,” Masuku said.

“It’s exciting to witness but most exciting is the after show, with many people in the arts industry putting together their efforts to make this epic,” she added.

Munch and Sip Festival has been growing with each outing and has been attracting corporate sponsorship over the years.

This edition is being sponsored by VISA.

The last event was held on December 30 last year.
