Gweru businesswoman clinches award

Gweru businesswoman and philanthropist Smelly Dube has clinched a top award for her sterling works in the community.

Dube won the international book prize by the Zimbabwe Business Awards Council at a ceremony held in the capital Harare.

The book prize which focuses on her works titled, “A true story of God” was handed over by Palestinian ambassador to Zimbabwe, Tamer Almassri who was the guest of honour.

Dube told Business Times: “ l would like to pay tribute to the men and women whom l work with day and night for the good of the community and my country at large.”

“It’s quite a humble experience to be honoured as having made immense

contribution to the development of my country”.

A multi business awards winner, Dube said she was driven by passion to change the lives of the ordinary people especially by providing affordable housing schemes.

Over the years, she has championed housing projects that have benefitted thousands of civil servants and low income earners in the informal sector among others.

Awards ceremony organiser Enrico Sibanda described Dube as the “Oprah Winfrey” of Zimbabwe who has helped the needy especially women and orphans in uplifting their lives.

Four years ago, the businesswoman was honoured with an award in Excellence, Leadership and Enterprise at the African Achievers Awards held in the United Kingdom.

Dube was among other achievers from the continent at the 9th Edition

of the  awards held at the House of Commons.
