Delta commits US$2.1 to bursaries programme

Delta Corporation has invested US$2.1 million into its education bursary programme, supporting underprivileged students across Zimbabwe, Business Times can report.

 

Speaking at the bursary induction ceremony on Wednesday, Delta Corporation General Manager – Corporate Affairs and company spokesperson, Patricia Murambinda, said since the beginning of the programme 20 years ago, Delta has sponsored 1300 students and they spent close to US$100 000 annually on bursaries.

 

“Delta has supported students for over twenty years through an education assistance programme that includes school bursaries totalling close to US$ 100,000 annually. To date, over 1,300 students have benefited, representing an investment of approximately US$ 2,100,000. In 2026, 100 students are benefiting from the programme, from A Level through to university,” she said.

 

In addition, Murambinda said the company remains committed in supporting deserving students which will help in sustainable communities and strong economy.

 

“Delta remains committed to supporting Zimbabwe’s national development agenda by investing in education and skills. Through this bursary programme, we are helping to protect learners’ potential from financial barriers and strengthen the country’s future workforce. In line with our theme, ‘Educating Today’s Learners, Powering Zimbabwe’s Future,’ we believe targeted support for deserving students is a practical and measurable contribution to building sustainable communities and a stronger economy,” said Murambinda.

 

She added that beneficiaries of the programme are selected in partnership with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, ensuring the bursaries reach high-potential learners from underprivileged communities across all provinces.

 

Murambinda added:”The bursary scheme is complemented by Delta’s wider social investment and skills development pipeline. This includes investments in school learning Confidential infrastructure such as the construction of at least one classroom block in an underprivileged community. This is complemented by other skills development initiatives such as the management training and development through the Mandel Training Centre, the Delta Technical Institute (DTI) which trains artisans across various trades and the Driver Training School focusing on heavy motor vehicles. Delta also supports early-career talent through its Graduate Development Programme. Collectively, these initiatives have helped develop professionals across a range of specialities, including doctors, engineers and financial experts.”
