BUSINESS REPORTER

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has appointed Regina Chinamasa as substantive Commissioner General with effect from September 1.

She has been the acting Commissioner General since February 1 this year. Chinamasa was the substantive Commissioner Revenue Assurance before taking up the top post in an acting capacity.

In a statement, ZIMRA board chairman Antony Mandiwanza said the tax expert had acquitted herself well in the organisation and introduced measures to plug revenue leakages when she was Commissioner Revenue Assurance.

“The believes that under the leadership of Regina Chinamasa, ZIMRA will scale to new heights while fulfilling its mandate of revenue collection and trade facilitation,” Mandiwanza said.

Chinamasa has over 28 years of diverse experience in revenue mobilisation customs, domestic taxes and enforcement of compliance to fiscal laws, Mandiwanza said.

ZIMRA has been operating without a substantive Commissioner General since the resignation of Faith Mazani in 2020.

In the second quarter of 2022, ZIMRA recorded net revenue collections amounted to ZWL$316.81bn,  which gives a positive variance of 63.51% against a target of ZWL$193.75bn. ZIMRA said all revenue heads registered positive growth in both nominal and real terms.
