5-day ultimatum for town clerk

Victoria Falls councillors have given town clerk, Ronnie Dube, a five-day ultimatum to respond to corruption allegations raised by a government probe team, Business Times has established.

He has up to tomorrow to respond to the allegations.

The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works last year set up an investigation team in terms of the Urban Councils Act after the mayor, Somvelo Dlamini and the Victoria Falls Combined Residents Association raised corruption allegations against Dube.

“Where we stand now there hasn’t been feedback from the council on the report. Two council meetings have been held and the issue was not tabled. We understand the town clerk was given five working days to respond and that ends on Friday,” Victoria Falls Combined Residents Association chairperson Kelvin Moyo told Business Times.

All efforts to comment from Dube or Dlamini were futile.

Dube was held accountable for multiple irregularities within the local authority.

It is alleged that Dube awarded a 15-year lease to a local company without a resolution passed by council.

Dube was also accused of presenting issues in full council meetings without first presenting them to committees for deliberations.

The probe team also said Dube has been running council without a work plan and failing to appraise his management team during the course of the year.

It is further alleged that Dube failed to have policies in place and following his own practices in the allocation of council properties which is not guided by any document from council.
