Government will export about 500 local teachers to Rwanda in September this year, the Rwanda Education Board director general, Nelson Mbarushimana, confirmed on Tuesday.
Mbarushimana spoke at the ongoing Zimbabwe- Rwanda Investment and Trade Conference in the capital Harare.
The development follows Rwanda President Paul Kagame’s call last year for the importation of Zimbabwe teachers.
Zimbabwe and Rwanda signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for Kigali to recruit teachers from the southern African country. The MOU was signed by Zimbabwe’s Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare minister Paul Mavima and Rwanda’s Education minister Valentine Uwamariya in Harare
“On the MoU signed last year for an exchange of education personnel from Zimbabwe, we have so far started recruiting and we will have 477 teachers coming from Zimbabwe in September this year for placements in polytechnics and higher learning instututions.
“We have set up a recruitment committee specifically for this and the process is being done online,” Mbarushimana said.
