Preparations for the upcoming three-day Victoria Falls Sports Tourism festival have gathered steam.

The jamboree, which kicks off on Friday next week and runs up to Sunday, is meant to promote sports tourism, market brand Zimbabwe and create sustainable development for marginalised communities in resort towns.

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority partnered Sports Tourism Incorporation, Zim Bho# Zim Yami, vakatsha, ZimParks and the Sports and Recreation Commission in the running of the festival.

The festival will incorporate sporting codes such as golf, tennis, mountain biking, marathon and aerobics.

The golf tournament coordinator Ephraim Mashingaidze (pictured) said they were satisfied with the progress as responses were encouraging.

“We are receiving good responses from golfers to participate in the tournament.

“As an inaugural event we are satisfied we have set a solid platform for the event to grow in the coming seasons,” Mashingaidze said.

He added: “It is also quite encouraging and a positive move to notice that participants to the golf tournament are inquiring about tourism activities they can do after playing golf.

The most popular on uptake so far includes bunjie jumping, flying fox, sunset cruise, elephant ride, flight of the angels, game drive, lion encounter, and gorge swing.

Mashingaidze encouraged participants to be vaccinated “so that we achieve herd immunity at all sport events that are held in our country” to protect everyone from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We want to thank government through the Sports and Recreation Commission for the continued availability of vaccines to the people of Zimbabwe,” he said.
