Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG) is expanding its footprint into Southern Africa as part of its strategy to boost foreign currency earnings for the business, it has been learnt.
This was revealed by RTG Chief Executive Officer Tendai Madziwanyika, who spoke at a media briefing held in the capital Harare this week.
He said the hospitality group has identified a property in Cape Town, marking its first venture into the region.
“We are entering the South African market through a property we have identified in Cape Town. While it requires some development, we are excited about this expansion. This will be our first footprint in the region, and we believe leveraging our local resources will generate significant foreign currency earnings for Zimbabwe,” Madziwanyika said.
He emphasized that RTG’s expansion strategy is underpinned by strong domestic foundations.
“A key challenge for many Zimbabwean businesses is expanding before securing their home base. We have taken care of that—our business is solid, and our hotels are in excellent condition. Now, we can focus on growth beyond our borders.”
Beyond its regional ambitions, RTG is also pursuing growth within Zimbabwe. The group is in advanced negotiations to acquire a prime property in Harare, with plans to finalize the deal this year.
“We are eyeing a very attractive property in Harare. While we cannot disclose details yet due to ongoing negotiations, we are confident that we will close the deal in the next couple of months,” he added.
RTG’s expansion into South Africa, coupled with its local growth initiatives, signals a bold step toward solidifying its position as a regional hospitality powerhouse.
