Warriors coach Michael Nees is pleased with his team’s performance during Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, in which the squad gained a crucial point.
“They (players) did not do bad. We are happy with the performance and we could have won the game if we had used all our chances,” Nees said.
He added: ” We need to stay focused as a team. There are more games to come and we need to win them for us to qualify.”
The draw against the 1990 World Cup quarter finalists came after the Warriors had picked up another point in another 0-0 draw against the Harambe Stars of Kenya also in Uganda.
The star of both shows was Khama Billiat who plays for Yadah in Zimbabwe and formerly for Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa.
The Warriors of Zimbabwe are in third position in Group J with two points, two points behind joint leaders Cameroon and Kenya who are both on four points.
Namibia are bottom of the table with no point at all after losing both their matches to Cameroon and Kenya.
Zimbabwe next face Namibia in back-to-back matches next month in matches which the Warriors need to win at all costs to stay on course for qualification.
Two teams from the group qualify for the finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nation’s to be held in Morocco.
The Warriors were not at Afcon 2023 after Zimbabwe had been banned from international football by FIFA for government interference.
This was after the Sports and Recreation Commission – a government arm – suspended the Zimbabwe Football Association leadership which was headed by Felton Kamambo.
