Commenting on this achievement, Marjorie said, “I am thrilled and humbled to be recognized through the 2022 Angaza Awards. It is truly an honour to be recognised along with other fellow Pan-African women who are shaping the financial services sector for the future. This distinguished accomplishment was only possible through the strategic vision, collaborative leadership style, dedication, and passion of the whole team at OMIG.”

With 20 years of experience in the financial services sector, she has continuously proven to be a trailblazer within the industry. She is responsible for driving the growth of the key units in Old Mutual Investment Group (OMIG) namely wholesale, retail and property businesses.

The Angaza Awards recipients were selected following an extensive review of candidates by a distinguished panel of judges from several disciplines. The criteria assessed candidates’ area of responsibility and contribution to firm performance.  Mayida’s scores were awarded for her achievements both within OMIG and value creation for clients and within the Group.

Throughout her career, Marjorie Mayida has led several notable projects at Old Mutual. These include, amongst others, a number of infrastructure projects in the renewable energy and property sectors, pioneering the development and opening of the biggest modern SME mall in Southern Africa, the Eastgate Mall. In 2021, she played an instrumental role in the listing, on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange, of the first exchange traded fund (ETF) in Zimbabwe.

About Angaza Awards

The Angaza awards were launched in 2020 at the Africa Leading Women in Banking and Finance Conference, a partnership between the Kenyan WallStreet and Kaleidoscope Consultants.

Hailed as the Pan African’s premier business recognition, this year’s Angaza Awards received entrants from nine (9) countries, namely Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, representing professionals from Investment Banking, Cross-border Payments, InsureTech, Banking, Capital Markets, Microfinance and Multilateral Development Finance.

“Globally, we need to reframe what leadership in finance looks like. These African women have demonstrated commendable impact across various industries that make up the highly-competitive, male-dominated financial services sector,” said Ms. Nuru Mugambi, Angaza Awards Chairperson. “It is inspiring to see how the Angaza Top 10 are multifaceted professionals who have turned around financial institutions, and driven innovative initiatives, while making time to give back to society in a transformational way,” she said. “Collectively, they are a beacon to young women who are interested in careers in finance on the Continent.”
