Corporate governance and marketing executive George Manyaya says the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara) will handle statutory funds with high levels of probity and propriety.

The roads authority has been in the eye of a storm amid graft allegations with a parliamentary portfolio committee recommending an investigation on senior managers at the parastatal.

The committee, in its report, said corporate governance was dead at Zinara imploring the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the abuse of office by current and former Zinara officials.

In his acceptance speech, Manyaya said his board would adhere to the various corporate governance legislative and policy frameworks.

“…We must ensure  the timeous disbursement of funds to the various road authorities . This role comes with a lot of responsibilities and expectations and when handling statutory funds like the road fund there is a need to manage such with high levels of propriety and probity,” he said.

Manyaya thanked the government for “walking the talk on inclusivity through appointing the youth and enhancing gender parity  to various national strategic institutions.

“We applaud HE President ED Mnangagwa for spearheading  the bold and  transformative policies as infrastructural development is a key pillar in the national development strategy and as you have seen that the emergency road rehabilitation programme has taken shape. We must ensure  the timeous disbursement of funds to the various road authorities,” he said.

Manyaya said Zinara would introduce a robust communication strategy bordering on transparency,  accountability,  disclosure and multistakeholder engagement so that all stakeholders are “always abreast with our activities therefore leaving no one and no place behind”.

Transport and Infrastructure Development minister Felix Mhona also appointed Lizwe Bunu as deputy Zinara chair and Alderman Naason Mudzara as a board member. The appointments are effective from January 13, 2022 and run for three years.

Mhona also appointed Great Zimbabwe University registrar Sinikiwe Gwatidzo as deputy chair of the Airports Company of Zimbabwe board with immediate effect for three years.

Mhona said the appointments were based on merit, integrity and their knowledge and understanding of, and experience in the strategic leadership of Public Entities under which they shall serve as board members go through rigorous and meticulous vetting process.
