Khayah Cement appoints new directors

BUSINESS REPORTER

Cement manufacturer, Khayah Cement Limited, has appointed business executives Tendai Kapumha and Sabinah Chitehwe as non-executive directors of the company as it reconstitutes the board following the exit of Associated International Cement Limited from the business.

The appointment is with effect from March 1, Khayah Cement Limited, formerly Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe, said in a notice.

A seasoned executive, Kapumha is the current CEO of the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe.

He is a former MD for BMA Fasteners and General Beltings and was once a board member for the National Oil Infrastructure Company of Zimbabwe. He is a non-executive director at ZB Building Society where he chairs the loans review committee.

A chartered accountant, Chitehwe is the MD of Crest Chemicals. She has served on boards such as NMBZ Holdings Limited and NMB Bank, among others.

The appointment of Kapumha and Chitehwe follows the resignation of Shepherd Shonhiwa and Gloria Zvaravanhu from the board in December.

The resignations came in a tumultuous month in which certain persons and companies linked to major shareholder, Fossils Mines (Pvt) Limited were placed under targeted sanctions by the United States Office of Foreign Assets Control.

In December, Fossils Mines acquired a controlling stake in Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe after buying a 76.45% shareholding held by Associated International Cement Limited. It then changed the company’s name to Khayah Cement Limited from Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe.
