FBC injects US$200k into Zim Open

Financial services group FBC Holdings Limited has injected US$200,000 into the 2026 edition of the Zimbabwe Open Golf Championship, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to premier golfing showcase.

The sponsorship secures the tournament’s branding as the FBC Zimbabwe Open.

FBC Group Chief Executive Trynos Kufazvinei said the investment aligns with the institution’s broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) agenda.

“The FBC group remains committed to investing in sustainable, value-driven and mutually beneficial corporate social responsibility initiatives spanning education, health, environmental protection, arts and culture, community trusts and sport,” Kufazvinei said.

The latest injection builds on a robust CSR spend of US$900,000 last year, which supported high-impact initiatives such as the Zimpapers Cancer Power Walk, the 2025 Kamandama Marathon, held in remembrance of the 427 miners who perished in the 1972 disaster, and the Elephant Hills Golf Tournament.

Beyond sponsorship, FBC has also positioned the tournament as a platform for social impact. Last year’s edition introduced the “Swing For Cancer” campaign, which raised over US$9,000 for organisations supporting cancer patients.

This year marks FBC’s fifth consecutive year backing the Zimbabwe Open, providing critical financial stability to an event seeking to regain continental prominence.

The 2026 tournament will run from May 3 to May 10, with the main championship rounds scheduled between May 7 and May 10. A total of 140 players are expected to compete in what remains Zimbabwe’s most prestigious golf event.

Local expectations are mounting for a homegrown victory. Zimbabwean legend Mark McNulty was the last local player to lift the title in 2000, with South African golfers dominating subsequent editions.

Zimbabwe Open Committee tournament director Michael Mahachi expressed confidence ahead of the tournament.

“We are pleased to have officially launched the 2026 FBC Zimbabwe Open Golf Tournament in Harare,” he said.

Over the years, the championship has hosted global golfing icons including Nick Price and Tony Johnstone, cementing its status as a key fixture on the regional sporting calendar.
