A unit of financial services group FBC Holdings says it has constructed more than 2000 houses across the country in the past 12 years, a senior official has said.

FBC Building Society board chairman, Ben Kumalo, said the housing units were constructed in cities and towns including Bulawayo, Kadoma, Kwekwe, Zvishavane, Hwange, Marondera, Nyanga, Rusape, Chipinge and Gweru as part of efforts by the lender to the housing gap.

“FBC Building Society is proud to have stepped in as a responsible corporate citizen to assist in reducing the national housing backlog in the country by constructing more than 2 000 housing units across different segments since 2009.  The Building Society has also supported housing through the provision of mortgages and personal building loans,” Kumalo said.

He said the building society remained committed to delivering relevant housing solutions tailor-made to suit all market segments from low to medium and high income groups.

FBC Building Society has captured many customers locally and in the Diaspora market, resulting in a number of buyers acquiring properties at different locations, which include Avondale, Belgravia, Newlands, Greendale, Glen Lorne, Mount Pleasant and Philadelphia in Harare.

Kumalo said FBC Building Society is contributing towards the reduction of the country’s housing backlog through property development.

In June this year, FBC launched Fontaine Ridge Housing Project in Kuwadzana which has attracted interest of local, regional and Diaspora markets.

The project is located along the strategic Harare to Bulawayo Road with easy access to the Central Business District.

In total the project consists of 858 housing units.

The project is a medium to high density project with the average stand size averaging 200 square metres.

Kumalo said FBC Building Society was going green and promoting sustainability of the environment in line with the group’s new vision to nurture sustainable solutions that enable the financial wellbeing of the communities it serves.

Each unit will have a 5,000 litre water tank and a booster pump.
