ZIMBABWE’s energy think tank Zimbabwe Energy Council (ZEC) will be hosting its Annual Electricity Outlook 2019 on February 28 to discuss the country’s electricity situation and to map the way forward on increasing the country’s energy generation.

The event is meant to provide stakeholders with the outlook of the electricity sector in Zimbabwe.

ZEC director Panganayi Sithole said various CEOs in the energy sector will be discussing the re-bundling of the country’s utility – Zesa Holdings – into a vertically integrated company among other energy issues.

“Stakeholders will have the opportunity to discuss these and other issues during the Electricity Outlook 2019. Besides the 2019 outlook, we will be discussing the completion of the forensic audit at Zesa Holdings and its subsidiaries.

“The coming in of Cabinet’s full support of Rural Electrification which has been at the peripheral of energy access debate for many years and rural Electrification rates are falling in Zimbabwe in spite of increased renewable usage in Sub-Saharan Africa,” said Sithole.

He said other issues to be discussed include rural energy access rate in Zimbabwe, which has marginally fallen to 19 percent from 22 percent.
