Dancehall, sungura musicians clash in charity match

Since the advent of Zimdancehall, showbiz has been awash with raging debate on the best genre in the country. It is argued that sungura has stood the taste of time, though it has been facing stiff competition from Zimdancehall that has, over the past years, become part of the street lingo.

Music promoter Patson Chimbodza has now taken this debate to the football stadium as he has planned a football match between musicians from the two genres at Dzivarasekwa Stadium on April 6.

The charity match, held under the “Chipaz Bhora” banner, previously brought musicians and soccer legends together but this year it will only be a musicians’ affair.

Several musicians from both ends have confirmed their participation though the king of sungura, Alick Macheso, will not be taking part

Jairos Jiri Southerton will benefit from part of the proceeds.

“We have to play our part as promoters and this time I have decided to donate part of the proceeds to Jairos Jiri Southerton branch. They need our assistance,” Chimbodza said.

Already musicians have endorsed the gig saying it will go a long way in uniting them.

Jah Prayzah, Soul Jah Love, She Calaz and Freddy “Kapfupi” Manjalima, in a video circulating on social media, said they were satisfied with the concept as it will go a long way in assisting the needy in the community.

“This is one way we can give back to the community and we will be there at the charity match,” said Soul Jah Love.
