Chiwenga appointed new Zimbabwe Health Minister

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Vice President Constantino Chiwenga as the new Minister of Health and Child Care.


Chiwenga’s appointment follows the sacking of Obadiah Moyo over alleged involvement in the US$60m COVID-19 scandal.


In a statement on Tuesday, the Chief Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet, Misheck Sibanda said Chiwenga is expected to implement a quick turnaround in Zimbabwe’s health delivery system.


“In making the decision, His Excellency the President has noted the urgent need to stabilise,restructure and reform the national health delivery system to better cope with challenges of the global COVID-19 pandemic and in the process, ensuring a quick turnaround in national health care, “Sibanda said.


Chiwenga’s appointment follows that of Air Commodore Jasper Chimedza as the permanent secretary in the ministry on Monday.
