Leonard Chinakidzwa, a Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) corporal, was Friday crowned the 2022  champion  in the Commander Airforce of Zimbabwe (AFZ) shooting competition at Cleveland Rifle Range in the capital.

AFZ Commander,Air Marshal Elson Moyo, who was the guest of honour at the prize giving ceremony commended the uniformed forces for providing equal opportunity to women  within their services.

“It was important to note that the competition promoted the art of weapon handling, safety procedures and shooting accuracy in addition to refining these musketry skills among the security services,” Moyo said.

He added: The participation of women in this competition, resonated well with the ideals of the Second Republic of giving equal opportunities to all Zimbabweans in pursuit of business or sporting activities in a free and peaceful environment.”

The AFZ , Moyo said will continue to invest resources in manpower training.

“A trained force has become the most important resource of any organization. Let me therefore hasten to point out that our training policy reposes on building a robust human resource base that is capable of effectively identifying and preparing appropriate individuals with specialized skill sets.

“The acquisition of knowledge and skills required to realize stated goals is a process which the organization should continue to revere,” Moyo said.

He also said the shooting  competition presented an opportunity for members of the security forces to sharpen their shooting skills which were critical for safeguarding the territorial integrity of the country.

“This year’s shoot was held under the theme, “Sharpening Skills At Arm” , which gives us the duty as security forces to work hard in order to safeguard and preserve the existing peaceful environment.

“Preservation of this peaceful environment guarantees national security and development as spelt out in the National Development Strategy. To his end we should always remain alert and prepared to carry out our constitutional mandate,” Moyo said.
