The Research Council of Zimbabwe(RCZ) has won the bid to host the Africa regional research forum which will take place in November next year.
Zimbabwe will co-host the event with Burkina Faso and Botswana.
RCZ executive director, Susan Muzite expressed delight at the development, saying this brings a recognition to Zimbabwe research efforts, and will be an opportunity for Zimbabwe to demonstrate commitment to both the regional and global research agenda.
“With Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe will have the opportunity to collaborate with Franco –phone Africa, – enhancing collaboration beyond the barriers of language. Botswana is our neighbour. We have strong historic ties, manifest in our social and economic cooperation,” she said.
Initially, the event had been slated for November this year in the resort town of Victoria Falls. But,has been re-scheduled to November 2021 due to the emergence of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Africa Regional Meeting of the Global Research Council is an annual meeting of research councils covering sub-Saharan Africa. Over 300 delegates converge for this meeting every year, to discuss issues in research policy, research management and contemporary research issues for Africa’s development.
The position of the RCZ has been strengthened through participation in the Science Granting Councils Initiative with funders including the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID), Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), South Africa’s National Research Foundation (NRF) and Germany’s DFG, among others.
