Zim suspends duty on coronavirus products

Government has suspended duty on imported goods meant to fight the spread of coronavirus, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube has said.

Zimbabwe has reported eight cases of people who tested positive for coronavirus, including one death.

“In recognition of the significance of the health sector, government has availed a number of tax incentives for production and importation of essentials drugs and health related capital equipment as well as other medical supplies,” Ncube said.

He added: “Furthermore , in order to enhance preparedness to fight the coronavirus and also guided  by the United Nations COVID-19 medical supplies, Treasury further suspends duty and tax on various list of goods and services related to testing, protection, sterilization and other medical consumables.

ZIMRA with immediate effect allow duty free importation of the goods, pending gazette of the necessary legal instrument.”
