It was all rosy for Zimbabwean twins Gift and Pachawo Petro as they took part in the Kampala Twins Festival that was held in Kampala, Uganda over weekend where they were invited as guests at the annual festival.

Petro believes such festivals should be held in Zimbabwe as a way of boosting tourism.

“Twins in Uganda are well respected and their mothers are respected to an extent that if she is caught stealing they set her free because they say she will be taking care of her children,” he said.

He said they got a call from the New Vision Group and got the support from several organisations that include the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, Rwanda Air and Werras Entertainment among others.

“We always get inspiration from such festivals. We have seen and learnt a lot from the festival. Twins should be respected and people across the country should embrace them. This festival was an eye opener for us,” he said.

Petro, who is also the manager of young musician Andy Muridzo, said they will be hosting twins in Zimbabwe next year.

“We have been inspired to have a similar function next year and we will be naming it Multiplebirth festival. We will have activities such as modeling, a dance competition, musical performances and a sack race. We have formed the Zimbabwe Twins Foundation which is an organisation representing all the twins and Multiplebirths in Zimbabwe,” he said.

He said there is need to cater for twins especially those from under privileged backgrounds.

“There are under privileged twins in the country and their social welfare such as medical aid, funeral insurance and scholarships need to be taken care of. So we will be hosting this massive event next year so that we create a platform for them,” he said.
