ZETDC issues home safety tips

The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), a subsidiary of ZESA Holdings, is urging households to prioritise electrical safety through a newly released home safety checklist.
The checklist is part of a broader initiative to prevent accidents, injuries, and property damage caused by unsafe electrical practices.
“Electrical safety is crucial to prevent accidents, fires and injuries,” ZETDC said.
ZETDC advises homeowners to avoid overloading socket outlets and do not plug too many appliances on a single socket outlet.
ZETDC also warned homeowners to replace damaged or frayed cords, burnt socket outlets and damaged plugs immediately as well as unplug appliances before cleaning or repairing them.
If an appliance sparks or smells like burning unplug it immediately, and have it inspected . It is also important to Replace flickering or dimming light bulbs promptly If a circuit breaker trips frequently, investigate the cause and consult a qualified electrician Never bypass a fuse or circuit breaker
If an appliance gives you a shock, ZETDC warns even a small one, stop using it and have it checked by a qualified electrician. Never attempt electrical repairs if you are not qualified, use a qualified electrician.
Appliances should always be unplugged before cleaning or repairing them. If any appliance begins to spark or produces a burning smell, it should be unplugged without hesitation and inspected by a qualified electrician. Similarly, flickering or dimming lights should not be ignored, as they may indicate underlying electrical faults that need professional attention.
