Top companies in the construction industries were awarded with top gongs at the just-ended Zimbabwe Building Contractors (ZBCA) with stakeholders saying the collective works of the companies has significantly improved the construction sector in the country in line with the government’s National Development Strategy (NDS1).

Leading the pack was Zimbuild that won the contractor of the year with the company chief executive officer Dr Tinashe Manzungu (pictured) saying the award was significant for him, the company and the sector as a whole.

Manzungu, who is also the association’s senior vice president, saluted most of the fellow contractors saying they have made the organization tick.

He also thanked the government for supporting local companies who have performed well in line with the government vision.

“Robust infrastructure development is at the heart of the second Republic’s economic transformation agenda in line with the country’s vision to achieve an upper middle-income economy by 2030 and as ZBCA, we give credit to the government for recognizing us as most of our members took part in the projects both completed or underway in various parts of the country,” he said.

“In addition to the economic impact, the growth of the construction sector is also having a positive social impact. As an association, we will continue to play the role of promoting the growth development of the sector as evidenced by the theme of our recently ended annual conference in Victoria Falls where discussions revolved around changing our approach to construction from 4.0 to 5.0.”

Another biggest winner at the awards is Fossil Contracting that was the first runner-up and Tensor Systems that came out as second runner up.

All the firms are involved in major construction and civil works in the country. Young men and women contractors were also honored with HIT Construction winning the Young Contractor of the year award while Majorcon Civils won the Woman Contractor of the year award.

The 2023 Awards took place at the ZBCA conference and this coincided with the NDS1 thrust to develop and construct the country’s infrastructure, including roads, educational facilities, energy, transport among others. We saw young contractor of the year, women contractor of the year.
