The Greatest Comeback – We Never Walk Alone

Liverpool produced one of the most stunning comebacks in Champions League history as Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum scored twice to beat Barcelona 4-0 and progress to the final for the second consecutive year 4-3 on aggregate on Tuesday. The Reds not only had a mountain to climb on the scoreboard, but were deprived of two of their most potent attacking weapons in Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino due to injury.
However, Origi and substitute Wijnaldum were the unlikely heroes as Barca surrendered a three-goal first-leg lead to exit the Champions League for the second straight season. Despite the despondency of losing Salah and Firmino, Jurgen Klopp’s men never lost faith and were accompanied by a typically raucous Anfield atmosphere on a European night. One hand is on the cup and all roads lead to Madrid for the final on the 1st June 2019 .

Arsenal’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League via a top-four finish in the Premier League were all but snuffed out on Sunday as they were held 1-1 by lowly Brighton. The draw leaves Unai Emery’s men in fifth spot, three points behind north London rivals Tottenham, who have a far superior goal difference, and means they can no longer catch Chelsea, who have 71 points.  City moved back one point clear of Liverpool despite not being at their fluent best against Leicester City as centre-back Kompany unleashed a long-range shot into the top corner 20 minutes from time. Guardiola’s men will become the first side in a decade to retain the title at Brighton on Sunday as long as they match or better the Reds’ result at home to Wolves. Its going to be a nerve wracking weekend I can see .

Arsenal can also reach the Champions League by winning the Europa League and they are in a strong position to reach the final, 3-1 up after the home leg of their semi-final against Valencia.
The visitors, whose Premier League survival was assured when Cardiff lost at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday, Brighton leveled from a disputed penalty in the 61st minute..They have a goal difference of +20, compared to Tottenham’s +28, meaning Spurs, who host Everton next week, are almost assured of finishing the season in fourth spot. Arsenal travel to face Burnley in their final league game. Meanwhile a league below my second team, Norwich City beat Aston Villa 2-1 on Sunday to seal the English Championship title as Derby County qualified for the play-offs with a 3-1 win against West Bromwich Albion. Norwich and Sheffield United, who drew 2-2 against Stoke, had already secured automatic promotion to the Premier League before the final round of fixtures. Derby joined Leeds, West Brom and Villa in the play-offs that will decide which of those four teams clinch the third and final promotion place.Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds, who finished third, will play Frank Lampard’s Derby in the play-offs, with West Brom facing Midlands’ rivals Villa. The first legs of the play-off semi-finals take place on Saturday, with the final at Wembley on May 27.

I played my first Golf Club Championships at my home course of Borrowdale Brooke and I can safely say it went OK! I did not come last and not win it ,but I can say I will be back next year . The club needs to be commended, for a great weekend of golf . My nett rounds were 79 and 85 so pretty happy with my rounds over the two days . Medal is grueling golf and one thinks, you must take your hat off to the pro golfers who put 4 rounds of under par golf in four days . Yes, thats their job and they practice everyday but even that! It’s not easy.
This coming Saturday see’s the running of the Castle Tankard at Borrowdale Park. The premier race on the racing calendar and the most prestigious of them all . In my 30 years of racing I have never had a Tankard runner and this year I have finally have one . The game filly, I am involved in with a great bunch of people Solinski, I think has a big chance . She stays all day and the 2000 m will be right down her ally. She was champion 3 year old, 2 years ago winning the final two legs of the triple crown .She then had a nasty stable injury kicking the stable wall and injuring herself which kept her out for a whole season . Our trainer Kirk and Debbie Swanson have worked day and night to get her fit and back to winning ways. I believe she is in with a chance. Its tough field but I am quietly confident she can win it. We live in hope!
