Telco Broadband and Beyond has partnered with Zimbabwe Posts (Pvt) Ltd (Zimpost) to establish a nationwide network of charging stations for electric motorcycles,Business Times can report.
Telco’s operations director, Ndabenhle Nkala, said the company will leverage Zimpost’s extensive infrastructure to accelerate deployment, with an initial plan to build 50 charging stations.
“…we have strategically partnered with Zimpost and we are going to leverage its 254 sites around the country as venues. Effectively, the technology that we are bringing is the new fuel station for the EV. Zimpost is going to help us build and enable this ecosystem through their network or infrastructure that they have across the country.
“So for 2026 in particular, we will be rolling out 50 charging stations across Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls. We are going to build the infrastructure that enables that with the 50 stations we will deploy. And after that, on top of that, we will then add up to 500 bikes by the end of 2026,” Nkala said.
The initiative forms part of Telco’s broader “Beyond Mobility” strategy, which seeks to introduce electric-powered transport solutions tailored to Zimbabwe’s growing demand for efficient, technology-driven logistics.
Nkala revealed that the company and its financial partners are committing approximately US$4 million toward the project.
“Through our financial partners that we’re very grateful for, we are all together looking at the deployment of US$4m of investment into actualising this thing,” he said.
The company is primarily targeting the commercial market, focusing on sectors that rely heavily on motorcycles for time-sensitive operations, including parcel and food delivery services, private security firms, and medical laboratories.
“…the market that we’re targeting with this solution is primarily aimed at commercial logistics. There’s a whole ecosystem that we’re trying to build, or that we are looking to build, in the form of what we call the gig economy. And basically, it could be anybody who is dealing with parcels, food deliveries, but also your more established courier and logistics partners as well have an opportunity to participate here.
“So security companies — you know that security companies use bikes usually to do their evening checks — and then as well as the sector in the medical field where they are using bikes to transport medical lab results and samples and things like that. So these are the primary participants or the primary target in this phase of the Beyond Mobility launch,” he said.
