starafricacorporation plant refurb nears completion

Zimbabwe Stock Exchange-listed sugar processor, starafricacorporation says refurbishment of its plant  will be completed soon, a move expected to ramp up production.

Refurbishment works commenced last year with the company replacing centrifugal machines and rehabilitation of the raw sugar storage.

Starafricacorporation is also renovating the sugar refining plant’s dry portion.

”An overhaul programme on two of the five boilers is nearing completion. These initiatives are expected to result in a significant improvement in production. The company will continue focusing on refurbishing critical items of plant and machinery,” company secretary Aldo Musemburi said.

In its trading update for the quarter to June 30, 2022, volumes at GoldSugar, a unit of staraficacorporation  dropped 14% .

As a result the reduction led to a 3% decline in overall sales volumes for the group in the period under review.

The reduction was also attributed to the power supply constraints.

However, to supplement power supplies, the company has since installed an 11kV dedicated power supply line, purchased a 1,000kVA generator, and purchased electrical wires and the stable power supply will result in improved production.

At Country Choice Foods, production and sales volumes increased  significantly to 81% and 68%, respectively, from the prior year comparative period spurred by the commissioning of an automatic syrup filling machine, a more rigorous competitive pricing strategy, and the launch of additional product lines.

As they commit to continue with refurbishments the company added that they will also look to  develop new products  as well as opening new markets for its sugar specialties.
