Seed producer, Seed Co Limited, has launched new maize and sorghum varieties – SCC65 and SCXH102- as part of attempts to solve the issues faced by farmers, Business Times can report.
The varieties were launched at a field day at Seed Co’s Rattray Anorld Research Station in Goromonzi.
Launching the varieties, Seed Co managing director Terrence Chimanya said:”Today we are launching two special products. (The first one is) SCC65. Im sure you have seen this type of maize on the field. I was also surprised when I saw it.
“We are also launching today SCXH102 a hybrid sorghum variety. This one will not be attacked by birds. You will have a bumper harvest,” he said.
Chimanya also made a plea to the government to support them in their battle against thugs selling fake Seed Co. seeds.
“To our guest of honour Prof Obert Jiri, we are appealing to you to assist us in the fight against that are selling fake seeds to hard working Zimbabweans.
“When they do that, they do not only rob farmers of their hard earned money and efforts, it also negatively impacts the nation’s food security,” Chimanya said.
