Reza, Majome sworn in

Michael Reza and Fungayi Jessie Majome were sworn-in yesterday by President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the new chairpersons of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and  the  Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC)  respectively.

Reza replaces Loice Matanda-Moyo who was appointed Prosecutor General in October last year while Majome takes over from Dr Elasto Mugwadi.

Reza, was the deputy Prosecutor General before the latest appointment and holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of South Africa and a Masters of Laws (LLM) degree from the Midlands State University.

He has undergone training in money laundering and asset forfeiture in South Africa, Botswana and Malawi with sponsorship from the United Nations Organ on Drugs and Crime.

Majome holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Post Graduate Diploma in Women’s Law, Human Rights Law and Administrative Law.

She served as Deputy Minister of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development as well as of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs during the Unity Government of 2009 to 2013, among other key policy level positions.

Speaking to journalists after taking oath of office, Majome said: “I am looking forward to getting the support of the citizenry as well as the state. I want us to build a human rights culture in Zimbabwe.”

Reza stated that his primary goal is to wrest the proceeds of crime from offenders.

“I was trained in asset forfeiture and money laundering. I went to South Africa, Botswana and Malawi all taking training in that aspect. It is something dear to my heart. We are going to ensure that criminals are dislodged; proceeds of crime must be recovered and it must be known that crime does not pay,” he told journalists.
