The Republic of Korea Friday donated US$200 000 to Tongorara Refugee
camp in Manicaland Province to go towards humanitarian support.

The ambassador of Republic of Korea to Zimbabwe Cho Jaichel and the United Nations’ World Food Programme Country director Eddie Rowe say the donation will transform lives of the refugees. Nearly eight million Zimbabweans are in dire need of food. Although more is required, the donation from the Republic of Korea will go a long way in rescuing the situation.

“Korea views Zimbabwe as a valuable partner in development, as well as
partner in corporation of all areas, despite these challenges I
believe that Zimbabwe has great potential of growth and brighter
future. For our Zimbabwean friends, the Korean government is always
ready to share our development experience,” Jaichel said.

Rowe weighed in saying: “…..As the population at the camp continues to grow, so does our
response plan and operating costs. The support from the people and
government of Korea will make a great difference in the lives of the
refugee population here as Zimbabwe continues to push through one of
its worst humanitarian emergencies.”
