Power Giants Southern and East Africa CEO, Engineer Edzai Kachirekwa, has scooped the Excellent Strategic Business Leader Award as a result of his innovative leadership and his company’s exceptional performance, Business Times can report.
He was honoured by the Zimbabwe Institute of Strategic Thinking (ZIST).
Speaking to Business Times after winning the top award, Engineer Kachirekwa said: “I am humbled to be recognized by reputable organisations such as the ZIST for impacting communities in ways that bring social and economic transformation, especially in the energy sector.”
He added: “Zimbabwe needs to move with the times, adopting new technologies and modern infrastructure development systems which will enable our people to enjoy increased access to energy and power, especially in rural areas and marginalized communities. We strive to leave no communities behind.”
It comes after Engineer Kachirekwa was also recently nominated for the prestigious African Excellence Awards 2024.
Engineer Kachirekwa, the brains behind various innovations in Zimbabwe’s energy sector such as the Mandatory Domestic Energy Fund initiative, the Afro Eurasia Energy Centre and Power Giants Southern and East Africa, endeavours not only to alleviate power shortages but also to ensure the country strategically positions itself into a regional energy hub.
His vision is for Zimbabwe to become a key energy exporter in the region and beyond through spearheading various renewable energy projects, partnerships and investments.
Recently, he has been on a whirlwind tour of key energy infrastructure across the region and overseas where he sought to learn more on advanced modern technologies and trends in the energy sector in order to implement them in Zimbabwe.
Last week, he participated at Africa’s largest energy showcase – the Solar & Storage Live Africa 2024 – at Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg which focused on innovation and investment in energy, power generation and management systems, particularly Infrastructure development solutions for the renewable energy sector.
He was also honoured with the 2023 Distinguished Clean Energy Champion Award at the fourth edition of the Zim Community Trailblazers Awards, among many other prestigious gongs.
