TENDAI BHEBE IN BULAWAYO
The legislator for Luveve constituency, Stella Ndlovu (pictured), has urged Bulawayo residents to participate in the upcoming 2022 national budget consultations.
Ndlovu, who spoke at a meeting to raise awareness on national budget processes in Bulawayo, said residents’ participation would allow them to control how public funds are channelled.
She said Parliament will send representatives to Bulawayo constituencies and others across the country on a fact finding mission.
“It is important for people to attend these consultations. Budget participation is important in developing countries like Zimbabwe as a means of enhancing performance, accountability of administration and improving social justice,” Ndlovu said.
“Citizen participation makes local service delivery more efficient and effective. There is a need to consult and capture the true experiences directly from the people.”
She also said youths should participate more in consultations and ask for the industry to be reopened.
“This would benefit them as employment opportunities are guaranteed. For instance, if 10 companies or so are opened more than 100 youths will be employed. So this is a very important event for the youths especially to participate in these activities,” Ndlovu said.
In the past years, residents have been shying away from the national budget processes.
