OFA has partnered SNV Zimbabwe and Organic Africa to celebrate the 2025 Organic Day Zimbabwe, set for Friday, in a show of unity towards promoting sustainable agriculture and ecological awareness.

The Organic Day, first initiated in 2021, is an international event that celebrates organic farming, sustainability, and ecological awareness.

This year’s celebration in Zimbabwe is anchored on a strategic partnership between OFA, SNV Zimbabwe, and Organic Africa, underscoring a shared commitment to strengthening the organic movement in the country.

OFA programmes coordinator, Fiona Tinarwo, said the commemorations will serve as a vital platform for innovation and collaboration within the agricultural sector.

“The event will bring together farmers, youth, policymakers, development partners, and private sector leaders to spotlight innovative organic farming practices as well as strengthen market linkages for smallholder farmers,” she said.

Tinarwo urged the public to rally behind local organic farmers by deliberately choosing healthy, sustainably grown food. She also called on stakeholders and investors to scale up investment in organic value chains and support fair market access for smallholder farmers.

At the policy level, she implored authorities to accelerate reforms and create incentives that promote organic farming and empower rural communities.

This marks the fourth time the Organic Farming Academy is hosting the commemorations in Zimbabwe.

The day was originally set aside by the European Union to globally celebrate the organic sector, which has experienced rapid growth driven by rising consumer demand, sustainability goals, and supportive policy frameworks.

In 2023, the world recorded 98.9 million hectares of organic farmland, representing a 2.6% increase from 2022, with 4.33 million organic producers active globally.

While Zimbabwe’s organic farming sector is still in its formative stages, progress has been notable.

The number of organically certified producers has surged from 7,883 in 2021 to 25,339 in 2025, reflecting the determination of local smallholder farmers to embrace sustainable farming practices.
