Ngezi Platinum crowned Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions

SPORTS REPORTER

Ngezi Platinum Stars defeated Simba Bhora 2-1  at Baobab Stadium to secure their first-ever Castle Lager Premier Soccer League championship with two games remaining.

Ever since winning the Chibuku Super Cup in 2016, the year they were promoted to the top division, the platinum miners have harbored high expectations of winning the league title  one day.

And this Saturday, Ngezi Platinum made waves and shook the entire Mhondoro community by winning their maiden title.

Simba Bhora took the lead in the first half through Tinashe Balakasi piling pressure on their hosts.

Ngezi Platinum was given a penalty in the sixty-third minute for a foul on Takunda Benhura by Simba Chinani. Kudzai Chigwida converted the penalty to tie the game.

Just one minute before the final whistle was blown, Benhura gave his team the championship-winning goal to secure a 2-1 victory.

Speaking after the match Takesure Chiragwi  said: “It was a tough season to be honest, since we started the season it had ups and downs and eventually we managed to win. I would like to thank all the teams that gave us competition, Manica Diamonds, Highlanders, and FC Platinum. Just coming from behind but we showed character and the players we currently have I think help us to achieve, they had the belief since last season when we finished fourth which was good for a start.”
