The Infrastructure and Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ) has appointed seasoned finance professional and chartered accountant, Willing Zvirevo, as its substantive chief executive officer (CEO) with effect from June 1, 2026.

Zvirevo had been serving in an acting capacity since September 1, 2025, following the retirement of former chief executive Thomas Zondo Sakala.

His confirmation comes at a pivotal time for the development finance institution as it seeks to accelerate its growth trajectory and strengthen its role in supporting Zimbabwe’s infrastructure and economic development agenda.

In a statement, the IDBZ board of directors expressed strong confidence in Zvirevo’s ability to lead the institution into its next phase of development.

“The board of directors expresses its absolute confidence in Zvirevo’s leadership, strategic depth and proven experience to guide the bank towards fully achieving its developmental mandate and long-term strategic objectives,” the board said.

Before assuming the acting chief executive role, Zvirevo served as the bank’s director of resource mobilisation and climate finance, where he played a key role in advancing IDBZ’s capitalisation agenda.

He was instrumental in developing resource mobilisation strategies, overseeing debt issuance programmes and cultivating strategic partnerships with multilateral development finance institutions.

His appointment is expected to provide continuity in the bank’s leadership while reinforcing its efforts to mobilise long-term funding for critical infrastructure projects and sustainable development initiatives.
